MAN TODAY

What have we become? How have we evolved? Is our existence worthy of being called life or are we merely surviving?

In what way do we participate in all this, are we aware of our living?

It seems that today’s man has stopped asking himself questions, not because of an inability to answer but b.ecause of a lack of humility and acceptance of a deeply marked personal state

MAN, AS DESCRIBED IN THE BIBLE, APPEARS AS A BUNDLE OF RELATIONSHIPS. THE FIRST OF THESE RELATIONSHIPS IS THE ONE HE HOLDS WITH GOD: THIS CONSTITUTIVE RELATIONSHIP IS SURPRISINGLY EXPRESSED IN THE THEME OF MAN AS THE "IMAGE" OF GOD.

WE NEED TO CHANGE, TO TRANSFORM, TO RETURN TO OUR ORIGINS. TO DO THIS, HOWEVER, IT IS NECESSARY TO RECOGNIZE OUR FAILURES, THE INABILITY TO HEAL FROM DEEP WOUNDS, FROM OUR SELF CONDITIONED BY CENTURIES OF "TOTAL IGNORANCE." RECOGNIZING THAT WE NEED CARE, A PHYSICIAN, IS THE FIRST STEP.

THE ORIGIN OF OUR EVIL
SIN

Talking about “SIN” nowadays seems like a fairy tale, a form of control, a term that if it doesn’t bother us, we consider it inadequate, “old,” useless.

The origin of “SIN” is disobedience.

Disobedience not to a “person” or a “god”, but disobedience to a natural law that governs the entire universe, of which we are a part.

Breaking away from this law has deeply diminished us, has made us incapable of living for what we truly are.

We are well aware of the difficulty of the topic of “Sin,” and it is not easy today, after centuries of controlled, distorted, false “information,” to explain in a few words what happened and why?

It is a difficult, uphill journey, where every step has its own struggle. But it is necessary for those seeking truth, for those who do not recognize themselves in a system, a society that is self-destructing.

They have tried in every way to convince us that man is self-sufficient, replacing spirit with matter. Making anything permissible as long as it is useful to ourselves. But they have all failed; religions, philosophies, and politics, by departing from that natural order to which we belong, have only created inequalities, hatred, and division. The current state of our inner selves does not allow us to understand what “Sin” really is. To begin accepting a different story, we must, among the first things, start to lose our reasoning, our RATIONALITY. Help for this journey is found in the books of MARIA VALTORTA. We present excerpts from the QUADERNI of MARIA VALTORTA, continuing the formative path with the writings of FATHER BERNARDO.

Maria valtorta

To give a brief introduction to the subject, we present four excerpts from the work of MARIA VALTORTA from the QUADERNI:

  • The disobedience of Eve and the obedience of Mary March 5, 1944
  • Notebooks From 1943 Chapter 69 July 24, 1943
  • Notebooks From 1943 Chapter 69 July 24, 1943
  • Notebooks From 1945 to 1950 Chapter 591 January 28, 194
Origine del peccato

SIN HAS CREATED IN US A DEEP DIMINUTION, TO DEPART FROM A LAW THAT IS WRITTEN WITHIN EVERY MOLECULE OF OUR BODY. THE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CREATOR! THIS HAS NOT ONLY MADE US INCAPABLE OF LIVING IN HARMONY WITH ALL CREATION, BUT ALSO INCAPABLE OF RECOGNIZING GOOD FROM EVIL. WITHOUT RELATIONSHIP, WE ARE NOTHING, WE LIVE, ACT, WITHOUT A TRUE CONCEPTION OF OUR BEING.

GOD'S HUMILITY IS MAN'S DIGNITY!

God could not have bestowed (could not have been more humble) upon men a greater gift than that of constituting for them the same Word through whom he had created the universe as their head, uniting them to him as members, so that he would be the Son of God and the Son of man, one God together with the Father, one man together with men.

“Let us rejoice, therefore, and give thanks to God: not only have we become Christians, but we have become Christ himself. Do you understand, brothers? Do you realize the grace (the humility of God) that God has poured out on us? Be amazed, rejoice. We have become Christ!”

“Hold fast to this truth, fix it firmly in your memory, as befits children educated in the school of the Church and well instructed in the Catholic faith. Learn to recognize Christ, head and body… By doing so, you will realize the immense grace (and immense humility of the Lord) that elevates you to God…

YOU LEFT ME ALONE
WHY?

This work, inspired by a poem and an image: footprints on the sand left alone, might seem like a fanciful idea.

In reality, based on the Word of God and the faith of the Holy Church, it aims to translate, in terms understandable to us, the experience of Cistercian anthropology.

Specifically, I avoid using the term “Cistercian spirituality,” as that term, in contemporary culture, has taken on a rather dubious content.

Furthermore, the Cistercian experience is not at all a “spirituality,” but rather an anthropology. It is the journey of “recovery” of man and his development, to the full maturity of Christ Jesus.

DE DILIGENDO DEO
SOME NOTES

Man in his “illness” finds a secret satisfaction, even though it causes him suffering, to assert that if he is unwell, it is not his fault.

In other words, if man does not love God, if he does not have faith, it is because God has not given him the ability to love, has not given him the opportunity to believe in His love. And so, man feels justified: God is unjust, giving to whom He wants, as He wants! It’s a common argument today, on the lips of many: blaming God to justify themselves!

CLINICAL ANALYSIS FOR THE CHRISTIAN
HOLISTIC MEDICINE FOR THE SPIRIT

Man was created by the Lord to be in a relationship of love and life with Him:

This relationship consists in communion… The creation of man, as a human creature, presupposes various elements, the first of which is “the dust of the ground.” In this “dust,” the Lord breathed His breath, and the dust became a living being. The breath of the Lord is His Spirit, which, in addition to making man a “living being,” establishes communion with God. Sin is fundamentally the rejection of this relationship: Genesis 3:5, “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

HEALING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT!

Healing presupposes knowledge of the sick individual. Knowing the disease alone is not enough. In the human field, diseases – in abstract – are the same. The individual reacts differently. Illness is an impediment, an obstacle to the well-being and growth of the person. However, man is not only or primarily an animal organism. Since man was created to be conformed to the Lord Jesus: Romans 8:29-30, “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.” It is necessary to know man in the Father’s plan. The disease – the fundamental “miasma” from which any kind of illness comes – is unbelief, the non-acceptance of the human project in Christ Jesus, and consequently, a rejection of oneself. Therefore, to begin the healing therapy is to believe in the Physician, the Lord Jesus.

CHRISTIAN PRAYER
SOME "FLASHES FROM THE BIBLE"

To pray, one must be freed from the mute demon. “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

We do not know what to ask for in prayer…

WORD OF GOD OR GOD WHO SPEAKS?

The expression “Word of God” is an improper statement because no word exists and can subsist without the person speaking. Therefore, the Word of God or Word of the Lord is a nonsensical statement that leads to the mentioned deviations and to the paradox of the example of the love letter. The letter to the Hebrews clearly tells us that there is no Word of God, but rather God who has spoken and who speaks… The subject and therefore the author of the Bible is God. The word is a means to enter into a relationship with a person. The Word can then be communicated through various means, but the Author always remains God.

AM I A CHRISTIAN?
PENANCE, SACRIFICES...
DO THEY STILL MAKE SENSE TODAY?

Some “flashes” on the “values” of modern society. Our society believes in power and therefore everything is geared towards success. Consequently, the program that society – “freely imposes” – and carries out is to produce in maximum quantity with minimum effort. Especially those who think they are “free thinkers,” the so-called intellectuals, are in the service of this power even when they pretend to go against the current. They need publishing houses, mass media to be heard and therefore they must “prostitute themselves” to power to have a salary and prestige.

THE CROSS
TRAGEDY OF MAN

It is undeniable that modern man is afflicted, he is not content, he has no serenity, despite all the well-being, technological and social achievements, emancipation from the so-called religious and moral “taboos.” Modern affliction is not even quantifiable. Therefore, not subject to analysis. It exists, but it does not make itself present because its essence is not to make itself present to the consciousness of the afflicted, but to empty his soul. The void is not analyzable. Afflicted man fills the void with whatever he finds at hand (the fig leaves of the Bible). The void of affliction leads man to rummage through the garbage of the barbed-wire enclosure of his empirical experience, of immediate pleasure (which he calls “freedom”) because he is not aware or wants to forget his dignity and the consequent responsibility.

GOSPEL?
OR NEW AGE?

Given the psychoanalytic foundation of the New Age movement, let’s briefly see how it is structured “culturally” in our modern society.

Rationalism had promised liberation from religious taboos imposed by the Church with its moral impositions.

Consumerism had promised the satisfaction of all needs, thus, happiness. In the 1960s-1970s, politics had replaced religion.

Thirty years of disappointment, generated by politics, has led to the spread of the “New Age religion.” Its spread occurred because in the West, it underwent a whole “incubation,” beginning with Descartes, Protestantism, etc.

Today, man, especially the young, has lost the ability to reason. By closing their eyes, it’s as if they interrupt life, which reduces to sensory stimuli. There’s no perception of the future, no desire; equipped with primary, instinctual needs, but not intellectual ones, merely decorating vital necessities.

A LESSON THAT MIGHT BE "SEVERE" IN SOME ASPECTS, LEAVING NO MIDDLE GROUND. BUT TODAY WE MORE THAN EVER NEED CERTAINTIES, FIRMNESS, SERIOUSNESS. FROM IMAGE TO REALITY

The Father is greater than the son and therefore the son is afraid, feels humiliated in front of it. Growth, however, depends on guidance, so even bad authority is initially indispensable. Faced with the authority of the father, it is reasonable to believe and it is a necessity if one needs to know certain elements that are not learnable through sensory experience. There are many experiences that the son still has not had.

The son’s obstinacy comes from not accepting the obvious superiority of the father when he needs to know what happens in his still inexperienced inner image.

Faith is the royal road, often the only one, to penetrate into one’s inner self.

SELF-KNOWLEDGE AND KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

From the knowledge of yourself comes the fear of God, so on the contrary, from the ignorance of yourself comes pride… as your deceived and deceptive thought convinces you, lying, that you are better than you are.

KNOWING ONESELF WITHIN GOD'S PLAN

Memory is that faculty with which we perceive reality. It doesn’t just concern the past, it acts on the present. We are aware that something exists around us and we exist in a reality with which we must contend every moment of life: like breathing, eating, defending ourselves from the cold, etc… and “others”! If we forget to take the umbrella when it’s raining outside, we say; what a forgetful person! We have lost touch with reality. Therefore, memory is presence, it is awareness that we exist and that a reality surrounds us, supports us.

LETTING THE PERSON GROW

The title of our meeting sounds a bit strange to our mentality in which we only talk about realizing oneself, being up to par, having self-esteem, appearing, etc.

The reason “for letting grow” will become clear as we go along, and above all, it will appear as if the person is Another who makes them grow. To us, it only asks not to hinder too much in its work through docility. And this Other is the Holy Spirit.

The content of the concept “Person” is the most difficult to define and the simplest to grasp. The definition of a person escapes all our categories. However, it is a reality that we live, or rather, we are, if we do not want to reduce ourselves to a mass of meaningless sensations…

THE RELATIONSHIP, THE HOLY SPIRIT
THE DYNAMISM OF BAPTISM

Our growth is not primarily oriented towards the person. The person emerges slowly, when it emerges. In our evolutionary growth, what we experience as most vital is pleasure, acceptance, and power. In the Gospel, Jesus uses the term “leaven”: Then he warned them, “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod!” Mark 8:15; “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.” Luke 12:1, and St. John: the triple concupiscence: all that is in the world, the concupiscence of the flesh, the concupiscence of the eyes, and the pride of life, does not come from the Father, but from the world. 1 John 2:16

RETURNING TO THE HEART

Returning to the heart means that we have grasped what it means to be a person: the root and source of all our vital dynamism. Normally, it is this vital, sensitive, intellectual, operational dynamism that constitutes the experience of our life.

Without docility to the Holy Spirit, we do not know what to ask for in prayer, those few times that we pray: Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words, Rom 8:26.

CONFORMITY TO THE MYSTERY

We should not understand God’s humility as we normally understand humility: one is humble who recognizes his smallness in front of the other. Regarding God, this obviously cannot be said. God is not humble because He considers Himself inferior to us. God’s humility is His charity, His total self-giving, humble because the Immense gives Himself to the one He created to be the receptacle of His glory. The Father who gives Himself entirely to the Son, generates the Son. In the Son who gives Himself back to the Father and the Father to the Son, we have the possibility that the Father in the Son can give Himself to others, to other creatures, whom, in His ineffable design, He has chosen: man…

THE HOLY SPIRIT
STRIPS US AND SETS US FREE

The Christian is in the world but not of the world: If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you, Jn 15:19. Through baptism, we have been buried with him into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life, Rom 6:4.1

It is not an intimate privilege; it is a responsibility towards our brothers and those who are without hope: but in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you, 1 Pt 3:15.

THE HOLY SPIRIT
ACTS IN HUMANITY THE RELATIONSHIP:
MAKES US GROW AS CHILDREN OF GOD.

The relationship, of course, presupposes two subjects or rather two people capable of entering into relationship, even if one of them is in the process of growth and therefore must be educated in the relationship. This is the case in all human and Christian relationships.

It is said that no one is born a master. This must be said especially of the relationship between God and man. Prayer, for example, is relationship, but we know that for prayer to become relationship, it requires an apprenticeship of knowledge, guidance, and docility.

All of Jesus’ catechesis in the Gospels is a progressive education towards relationship:
